BRIDE AND GROOM FIGHT

PREVIOUS / NEXT

WEDDING by KRISS on 10 november 2015

Have you ever been to a wedding where the tension between the bride and the groom is palpable ? I mean, as outsiders, whom we are as professional photographers, we are not intimate enough with the families to know everything that’s going on and not all the families body languages are necessarily clear to us.

But sometimes, you can feel that there is really something wrong going on and if it is our job to keep to ourselves, we can’t help feeling the emotions that go through the day.
After all, the task of a wedding photographer is to capture those emotions through photography so we have to be in tune with the wedding, primarily with the bride and groom, setting aside our own emotions for the day and immersing.

It can be energy draining when there is some tension and I am glad it seldom happened to us.

Once the father in law (meet the in laws) kind of man, very protective of his daughter was very condescending with the groom and he kept smiling and taking it kindly all day long, probably used to the abuse and not even bothered anymore.
But by the end of the day, the groom had had enough and started showing signs of rebellion which were striking on the cameras.
We caught killer stares, clenched jaws, well shots we briefly looked had when making our selection but certainly not images to deliver to the family.

Weddings kind of always are tense because it’s a Big Day, often Big money, Big stress, Big everything and people fear for it to be a Big failure.
But throughout the day, the tension relieves and people slip into an euphoric kind of state before they collapse.
The only negative thing that can make that traditional wedding day energy go funny is when the bride and groom clearly have an issue to sort out and haven’t done it beforehand.

Our worst experience in that matter was on a wedding with a very fussy bride who seemed unhappy with every single detail of the wedding.
I think she had built up so much stress and anticipation that she had made herself believe things were going wrong.
In fact everything was perfectly fine, including herself but she wasn’t aware of that.
As a consequence she was a pain with pretty much everyone at her wedding, bossing around and not enjoying herself.

I met the two a few weeks later to shoot and after wedding and the atmosphere was so much lighter, I gathered there was nothing wrong between the two lovebirds, only the tension of the Big day had sort of spoiled her fun.

If you are getting married soon and want a piece of advice.
Just imagine that anything unplanned or going out of plan can be a blessing because it will create a new set of events, and novelty is good.
Just look forward to you wedding to be amazed and careless of the details.
What will last will be your ring, your photos and your memories.
Nobody will ever remember the stain on the dress, the photographer will photoshop it out, neither will anyone give a damn about the time you sneezed during the ceremony, so just relax and enjoy your wedding day !
