STOP USING YOUR BUILT IN FLASH

STOP USING YOUR BUILT IN FLASH Why do I still come across people who shoot a several miles distant landscape in broad daylight with their built in flash on ? Well, there is a word for this and it’s « Ignorance ».
I hope and believe this blog can help people with some photography tips and the one I am about to give is actually what can help you start making better photographs.
So keep reading !

People, you should stop using the built in flash of your cameras and for several reasons.

1- You don’t know how to use it.

Have you ever wondered if you should use the flash or not ? Then you probably don’t have a clue what you are doing and you have probably messed up a few decent photos unknowingly.
At best you have used your flash in conditions that didn’t require it such as shooting something distant in broad daylight.
Bear in mind that professional flashes that cost an arm and a leg barely come close to the power of sunlight at short distances.

2- Even if used properly they suck.

This is an actual fact, built in flashes only produce a very ugly harsh direct light and they will never help you get decent pictures.
They will burn skin colors, diffuse only in the center of the photos, mess up the eyes etc… Flash systems need modifiers to create beautiful light and if there are ways to do that, it’s almost impossible with a built in flash.
In some cases you can diffuse the flash with a DIY card made out of sulfuric oven paper.
But this is as good as it gets.

3- Because there are so many ways to take advantage of the available light.

And I think this is the most important thing because this will help you progress and create more beautiful images.
When you’ll stop using your flash and start thinking in terms of available light you will look at the world differently and your photography will take the slope upwards !

If you feel you really need your flash because your photos are too dark, start learning, buy a tripod even a portable one, learn about speeds ISO and aperture, start playing with these and you’ll thank me !
