TRAVEL IS THE BEST PHOTO EQUIPMENT

TRAVEL IS THE BEST PHOTO EQUIPMENT Have you ever down on your photography ? Do you go through stages where everything you do seems bland and nothing seems to satisfy your artistic appetite.
You view other artists works and they all seem flawless and they seem to make sense and on the other hand you feel none of the images you produce worthwhile.

This does happen to any photographer because we are not machines and inspiration comes and go according to many factors in anyone’s life.
In times like that there can be a temptation to look into new equipments to help achieve what fails at the moment and perhaps it is the solution for some but not often.

Often, the solution is to travel, by any means necessary, what your mind needs is simply a change of scenery.
You have to see new things to get inspired again, break the routine, dare more and visual opportunities will arise naturally.

I always experience that when I get stuck in similar works for too long, I first go through a stage of extreme creativity when I sometimes wake up during the night and jolt down a whole photo shoot on a piece of paper.
I end up with scores of ideas, vivid images I can perfectly see in my mind but very few make it to the realization because days only have 24 hours and such creativity bursts would require me to stay awake and work all day continuously to achieve what I want to do.
Since I can’t, the cycle always wears itself out after a while and I am left with a few interesting works and a lot of frustration and not the energy to pursue the initial ideas.
Sometimes if I haven’t written them down I forget them, memory is a strange thing and doesn’t keep what is not immediately necessary it seems.
This is when I feel down on my photography and when any new work especially travels open my horizons again.

Creativity doesn’t necessary comes back straight away but at least you get to see new things, try new things, new lights and afterwards when you look at the works you have done, you realize that you are satisfied with them and that is what counts.

Another great creativity boost is a change of scenery even within your own routine.
Using a new lens and setting yourself goals to achieve with it, find a subject that triggers your imagination and shoot plenty.

Right now, after only a few weeks in the same place, I miss many vital things to me : the heat, the relaxed pace, swimming in the sea and fresh coconuts lol.
As a result I get a bit tired and have to kick myself in the butt to get some work done on my own initiative.
It’s high time I get new artworks done and get the workflow at a high pace again, my traveling self having to wait a little bit more for the next tropical adventures.
