WEDDING by KRISS on 10 november 2015

Well it seems that for the first time in history, a photographer stood up for himself and kindly wrote a Facebook comment gently (I read the post) asking wedding guests to stop spending the wedding on their mobile phones and enjoy the wedding instead.

So far this is the list of links google has fed me with the google alert on the search for Wedding photography in the last couple of days:

Come on guys are you serious ? Is it the first time someone complains about wedding guests shooting crappy photos with their iPads right in the perfect spot when the official photographers work their heads off to find a lesser spot to do their job ?

What I don’t understand is how a simple comment on Facebook goes viral overnight and comes to interest all the journalists around the world.

It is of interest to me though and for two reasons ?

- I would be so keen on knowing the secrets or technique behind the vitality of this comment.
- As a wedding photographer I have pestered in silence many times because I missed shots, because of an iPad and a stupid pair of arms holding it as high as possible, and also moving, right in front of me.

Actually now that I think of it, someone with java skills could come up with a game of the sort for frustrated photographs.
Shoot your way through a wedding.

More seriously (the idea of the game is good though), weddings are not the only places where people spoil their fun with their tablets and mobile phones.
Concerts, fireworks, you name it.
People keep your amateur photographer iPhone skills to your bedroom, that’s the only shots and videos you’re going to have a look at later on anyways !

Ok, ok, I’m stopping my foolishness.
Just bear in mind that your hosts, the bride and groom, your family, your friends have probably paid a photographer to cover their weddings and deliver them with the best possible images for a lifetime.
They will also be elated to discover all your non professional shots with your constantly evolving phones that might even make them look good.
But keep them to shoot the things the professional photographers can’t.
It just makes more sense.

I see people gathering around in flocks, shooting the same thing at the same angle all day through.
Honestly, what originality for your bride and groom do you think that’s going to bring to their wedding coverage ? Instead, go wild, shoot people shooting (I do that myself), have some fun and let the pros do their jobs !
