NERJA IS SO ALIVE

PREVIOUS / NEXT

NERJA by KRISS on 04 january 2016

We landed in Madrid on the 2nd of January in the morning and there is a whole previous post that depicts the journey.
This is the second time for us we arrive in Nerja out of the blue with no place to stay but a short term rental or hostel.
This time we have a central hostel and the first sensation, besides the cold 19°C in the evening is a mixed feeling of deja vu and every feeling settling down while also boiling out, in a word a great mixed feeling sensation.

Strangely enough our first impression was as if we had never left but we also all felt nostalgia about Florida which we enjoyed very much and it felt like we weren’t there out of our own free will.
But in fact we were and we are.
On our first night, we walked again through the familiar streets of Calle Pintada, Balcon de Europa, Plaza Cavana, and as we stopped there for a few tapas, I couldn’t help feeling tired and sad.
Kate on another hand was happy to be back, Tom was elated and even more when he bumped into a few chicks from his school, Amy felt out of place and Rose was at her worse refusing even to speak to us so I guess she felt weird too.

After a couple of days, all the feelings seem to be settling down, we know why we decided to settle our life for a wee while in beautiful Nerja once again, and passed the fact that we have to wear long sleeves, we still love the place very much and we are happy to be here.
What really caused so much trouble in our minds is that we came back to a place where we used to have a house and a temporarily settled life to find nothing but a hostel room.
The waiting to find a new home is difficult and we have been quickly acting in order to fix that !

On my first wake up, early Sunday morning, I walked on my own to the Balcon de Europa to shoot the rising sun, just because I felt like it.
I didn’t bother which camera or lens I took.
I just kept the 35mm I had screwed to the D4s and went for it.
I later finished sleeping my night until 12.30 pm ! I think I haven’t slept like this in over 10 years.

We went to the beach again, since it was Sunday and there was no point trying to look for any rentals.
And on half a day walk, we tumbled across a christmas choral on the church parlor with many people listening and watching, another event of some kind in another street and also a jazz session in a restaurant at 4pm in the afternoon.

On Burianna beach where we felt chilled to the bones (I exaggerate a bit purposefully) we saw some people swimming, others playing football in swimming trunks, others like us with a little coat or a long sleeve light jumper.
Winter this year is abnormally hot everywhere on the planet and here is no exception.
Still back from 85°F, the temperature is a little cold for us and I am happy with my coat !

Anyways, I am still knackered and this reflects poorly on my writing, I am aware my telling goes a bit everywhere.

What I first intended to explain is how much Nerja is alive and beautiful for a little sea town, and it quickly feels good to be here again.
Summer please come quickly though !
