TYPICAL HOMESCHOOLING DAY

PREVIOUS / NEXT

KIDS by KRISS on 18 november 2015

TYPICAL HOMESCHOOLING DAY Since we arrived last week in Puerto Viejo Costa Rica with our 3 children aged 6, 10 and 12 whom we will be homeschooling for the next 3 months, we have naturally adapted to a daily pattern for life and homework and this is what it is like.
Despite the jet lag mostly for Kate but it’s getting better today, this is how we have chosen to organise the days :

4-5am : Our bodies wake up, a little early some might think but here, the sun rises around 5am so this is not so early.
We have some fruit breakfast and then head out.

5-8am : We go to the beach to play and do some exercise or do some bicycle around and then go to the beach to play.

8-9am : We shower and try to get rid of the sand but it is very sticky here ! We then have breakfast with some more fruits or eggs or porridge.

9-12am : Kate takes on Rose for her class and I take the big ones.
While they are working I work a bit as well unless they need some help.
There is at least half the time set for them to explain, correct, teach.
Kate does some practical work besides the traditional teaching and while Rose is busy plucking flower, directing and drawing them, she shoots the many animals that come to see us in the morning.

12am-2pm : We cook, eat, talk, clean, shoot some more.

2-3pm : We have a nap, sometimes the kids don’t feel like napping, sometime I don’t in which case we set about reading or working on this blog for instance.

3-5pm : We go out again for a bike ride, some more beach time or shooting time.

5-7pm : We study some more, read stories to Rose in English or Spanish or French, I ask Tom and Amy to work on a given topic for their writing in spanish and french.
Once they have finished we translate to english.
7pm : We have supper but lately the kids have been very tired and jet lagged so no one makes it past 7pm.
I often end up eating supper on my own lol. 8/9pm : I work some more on the photos or the blog and then my eyes feel tired and the mosquitoes start biting me and I’m off to join Kate under the very unpractical mosquito tent.
Ok, this is subject to many changes to allow grocery shopping for instance or rainy days (like yesterday) but this is more or less the routine we will be following here, and it is so different to our routine in Spain ! Just as comparison, we usually have lunch around 4pm in Spain…
