NIKON D90 REVIEW

PHOTO GEAR by KRISS on 05 october 2015

So yesterday I grabbed my Nikon D90 out of the hands of my daughter to shoot a little with it.
Over the last few months I got used to shooting with the D4s and my what a change !

Mounted with the fabulous nikkor 105mm macro VRII I was very surprised.
At first I thought I had put either the lens or the camera on manual focus.
I double checked but no problem there.

I was puzzled, I tried again and very very slowly the lens moved and focused in what seemed to me an eternity.
That made me realize how good the D4s is and what a huge difference there is between older semi-pro cameras and nowadays high end stuff.

I must admit it was a bit dark outside, close to 9pm and focusing in the dark is not the D90 strong suit.

To be honest, no need to go as far as the most expensive Nikon gear to get excellent focusing abilities, at least in broad daylight.
The D7100 for instant focuses very well even in the same light conditions (I tried).

However some of the best photos I ever shot were with my D90 and I even used it a few times as a 5th backup body on weddings or other events.

Today, my daughter uses it and she’s more than happy with it.

So this is why I kept this little nikon D90 all this time :

First of all it’s a good body, sturdy and with all (most of) the functions you expect from a professional camera.
You can select an M or A mode (also S and P) and you can directly access the aperture and the speed.
It misses the direct selection of the ISO and you have to go through the menu to do that and this is annoying.
You can change the AF type directly from the body as you do with any pro camera.
It only has one slot for an SD card so this is not a safe option but anyways the D90 is not a camera you should rely upon for anything serious.

As a conclusion I would say that Nikon D90 is a good camera to learn photography and has very very good abilities !
