LOOKING FORWARD TO MY FUTURE

LIFESTYLE by KRISS on 05 february 2016

What do you want to be when you grow up ? Well, as a middle aged man, I can now answer this question without having to think too much about it and very little doubt.
I want to live off my photography fully, write books, finally self-teach myself to properly play the guitar (enough to please my own ears is more than enough), grow most of my food and own a little surf, photo cafe (a hut would be enough) by the beach.
Of course, I want to share that with the woman I love and do it in a place where no one has a clue what a wooly jumper is.

Asking my kids the same question, one of them wants to be a cosplayer or design video games, another wants to have a restaurant and the last one just wants to stick with us.
But things shift very rapidly with children and I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed their minds in only a matter of weeks.

For me this is a different matter, and so it is for Kate.
We have pretty much aspired to this for a long time, ever since we met actually.
And the decisions we took along the road, changed things, shaped them and are probably leading us towards this goal but through paths we would not have guessed.
Life is full of surprises !

I have noticed things often follow patterns : seasons, moods, inspiration… and it’s not an easy thing to get hold of it, especially when they are linked all together and when part of your income depends on it.
I have came across this reflexion quite a few times :

Will taking your hobby as a photographer to a professional level, kill your inspiration and ability to create photography.

Most of the time, a pro photographer answers to that, that it won’t because even if you get to do works you don’t particularly enjoy, you’ll also get to do things you like and since practice makes perfect, you will practice a lot and get better at what you do.
I personally think that any artistic work follows certain patterns.
There are high peaks where artists, photographers included can be very prolific, burst out with ideas and can’t find enough hours in a day to realize all they want to do.
At other times they completely loose inspiration or get frustrated and they produce fewer works.
Maybe some artists are lucky enough to keep their spirits high at all times and keep a steady flow of inspiration but this has never been the case for me.
As of right now, I am looking forward to my future a bit more than I am able to fully enjoy living this present time.
Fortunately, I have kept a child’s mind and heart and have self-taught myself to shift quite quickly.
