WHAT TO PACK FOR KIDS

WHAT TO PACK FOR KIDS As you may know if you read our adventures, we are now in Central America, having moved from Spain and earlier France and Scotland.
For this trip planned for 3 months, originally to Costa Rica but with lots of flexibility for next destinations, we have set a packing goal of one cabin item each.
Fortunately nowadays on international overseas flights, most companies will allow one medium size cabin luggage you can place ahead of your sit and one small bag for your iPod, headphones, book, anything else to stash at your feet.

So, in light of this, this is what we packed for each kid :

Rose, age 6 :

- her teddy bear (actually a rabbit and it got lost at Miami’s airport or San Jose, after 40 hours of traveling we stopped keeping track of Rose’s little friend).
Don’t worry it got replaced by « summer flower » a toucan in Costa Rica.
- One jumper (light).
- 2 tee shirts.
- 1 pair of shorts.
- 1 legging.
2 dresses (light).
- 4 underwear.
2 pairs of socks.
- 1 pair of trainers.
- 1 pair of flip flops.
- 3 swimsuits.
- 1 pyjamas.
- 1 light load towel.
- toiletries (tooth brush, brush, elastic bands).
- sunglasses.
- school necessities (pen, pencils…).
- pet shops.
- a coloring book.
- a study book from school.
- a tablet.
- a mini usb mp3 player and headphones (reinforced by threading around for them not to break).
- 1 headlamp.
- 1 inflatable head cushion

Amy, age 10 :

- One jumper (light).
- 4 tee shirts.
- 3 pair of shorts.
- 1 legging.
- 5 underwear.
2 pairs of socks.
- 1 pair of trainers.
- 1 pair of flip flops.
- 2 swimsuits.
- 1 pyjamas.
- 1 light load towel.
- toiletries (tooth brush, brush, elastic bands).
- sunglasses.
- school necessities (pen, pencils…).
- a coloring mandala.
- a tablet.
- a rescue mobile phone (cheap and used as mp3 player).
- headphones (reinforced by threading around for them not to break).
- 1 headlamp.
- 1 inflatable head cushion

Thomas, age 12:

- One jumper (light).
- one pair of sports trousers.
- 1 pair of trainings.
- 1 pair of flip flops.
- 4 tee shirts.
- 2 pairs of shorts.
- 1 pyjamas.
- 1 swimsuit (and it’s itching him we have to get a new one).
- toiletries (perfume, deodorant, toothbrush).
- a science magazine.
- a pair of headphones.
- 1 mini camera.
- his private diary.
- 1 headlamp.
- 1 head cushion inflatable.
- Yu go oh set of cards.
- a game of dice

For each of them we purchased cheap light beach backpacks (around 5€ each) to carry what they needed handy on the plane.
For the rest everything easily fitted in their 30 liters rucksacks. Also, to make any customs controls faster at the airport, all the items were logically stored in ziplock bags.
Emptying and refilling the bags was a piece of cake.

Finally we brought a pair of sea sandals for each of them and haven’t had any use for them yet.
