HIGH TIDES IN NERJA

PREVIOUS / NEXT

NERJA by KRISS on 27 march 2016

In a few weeks beaches in Nerja have shrunk by half, one particularly, the playa Torecilla has completely lost the west side of the beach.
I remember watching a group doing some tai-chi there only a few weeks ago and it is now completely under water.
The sea is getting very close to the wall, there is a big chunk of beach missing and the rest of the beach has reduced considerably too.

Today we walked from the Parador to Playa Burriana and this is a walk we took last week.
The beach that used to string between the two places exists no longer, we had a tiny passage way between the rocks and all the rest was battered by the sea.
Also, I have noticed there are waves even on days with little or no wind.

I enquired to many people about this change because we don’t seem to recall anything similar last year and no one seemed to be able to either know or even have noticed ! This is really amazing.
The best explanation we were given had to do with currents coming from Malaga but this is not the ocean, only the Mediterranean sea and I have never seen anything like this.

Could it be something worth being concerned about ? I have sincerely no clue but it feels like it.
